About Me

Philosophy Statement: My personal goal as a dental hygienist is to influence my community towards a healthier and happier lifestyle that begins with motivational oral health. I am passionate about this profession since my influence was a very caring and compassionate dentist I had when I was growing up. I always felt comfortable in a dental chair, hence my desire to transmit the same sentiment to others. When I graduate, I plan on dedicating time at volunteer facilities that provide free dental service to the community. The professional impact that dental hygiene has in me is profound because I truly believe that an individual's well-being can improve by having a better oral health. Providing assistance during the client's journey is a personal joy that I like to bring.

Reflection Statement: evidence of competence competency.

It is crucial to obtain excellent x-ray images from our patients. They are the view of what the naked eye cannot see, hence the importance of being attentive to the details in order to catch any anomalies in the bone or periodontal supporting structures.

  4. Identification of possible cultural/ethnic aspects that may influence the development or progression of periodontal disease.
  5. Develop a proper dental hygiene treatment plan.

Patient Education Book

The patient education book was intended be a visual tool for the client to help them make informed decisions on products such as toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrush and floss. It was kept simple and easy to understand, with the goal of answering the patient's questions as we flip through the pages.

Community Work

Offering services and supporting the community is extremely important and fullfilling as a professional. We offered screening to Elementary Schools in the Los Angeles area with the goal of introducing dental concepts to the youth, as well as the parents if they were present. The experience taught me valuable lessons about the importance of dental hygiene at a young age, as well as to respect parent's decisions.

As preventive specialists, dental hygienists are responsible for oral health education and health promotion. Being knowledgeable and having the experience with smoking cessation aids and behavior modification techniques is a necessary component for achieving competence as a dental hygienist.

The purpose of the smoking cessation project is to provide the Dental Hygiene student with a mechanism for incorporating evidence-based knowledge and program planning skills into the development and implementation of a community-based or individual focused smoking cessation program.

A PICO project is a method used in the healthcare and medical research fields to frame and answer a clinical or health care-related question. PICO stands for:

  • P: Patient, Problem, or Population
  • I: Intervention
  • C: Comparison or Control
  • O: Outcome

This framework helps researchers and clinicians to formulate focused and structured questions, which in turn aids in the efficient search for evidence and the evaluation of research results. By using the PICO framework, researchers and healthcare providers can create well-constructed questions that lead to efficient and effective evidence-based practice.

Education

I became a dental hygienist because I find great enjoyment speaking about oral hygiene habits and the importance of working with the client to achieve adequate home care. Working on the preventive side of dentistry is my passion and I believe that each patient should be treated with respect, and their comments and concerns should be taken seriously. I have worked in the Los Angeles County, serving low-income individuals, children and adolescents during elementary school events, and veterans.
